The Community Development Program at Southside Community Services endeavours to work across inner south area of Canberra to develop a range of programs and services for the local residents. The philosophy of Southside’s Community Development is Positive Community Inclusion.
Community Development works in all sections of the community and is active in forming community partnerships for the benefit of residents. In the last twelve months we have worked closely with Companion House, Directions, Photo Access, Women’s Only Swimming and the Community Rooms at Oaks Estate and Stuart Flats. We are continually expanding these partnerships and looking for new ways to sponsor new programs.
This is your community - Come and get involved!
Some of the Programs we run:
The Southside Gallery
This is a vibrant space set up within the Southside Building that offers exhibition space to artists in the community.
Links to Learning
Links to Learning is funded by the ACT government through ACE grants. The program matches volunteer tutors with adults who may need assistance to improve their basic literacy skills. Phone 6126 4700 for more details.
I am Awesome U know
Southside Community Services combined with PhotoAccess and the children at Narrabundah Primary School who attend the On Track program to make the film “I am Awesome U Know”. The film was shown publicly and copies are available at Southside Community Services and PhotoAccess. The project was funded by artsACT. In making the film we hoped to give a voice to this group of young Canberra boys to express who they are and what is important to them now and in the future.
